Architecture Of Chittorgarh Fort

The fort has massively long and thick walls and in the front, there were trenches as part of the natural defense system. The innermost part of the fort was occupied by the living chambers for the members of the royal family as the rulers of Chittor were always at war with the invaders they could not devote time for decorating this fort by beautiful marble pillars having trellised windows and engraved walls. In fact, it is a solid structure constructed in local sand stone. There are abundant references in the history telling that the fort was shelled by the ammunition but there was not any cannon ball which could pierce the palace walls. On the beautiful, spiritual and mystical part of the fort is the palace and temple of medieval saint Meera Bai who was the Maharani of Chittor but she devoted her life in the devotion towards her dear Lord Krishna. The Fort walls still reminisce the time period when they were reflected by the eternal and divine beauty of Maharani Padmini. The stories of love of the Maharaja Ratan Singh and Maharani Padmini can still be heard by anyone whose heart is filled with love. The fort has become synonymous with words like courage, faith, sacrifice, and spirituality. The fort of Chittorgarh also reminds us the sacrifice made by the valiant Rajput women when during the seize of Chittor by Alauddin Khilji and seeing no hope of victory or survival thousands of Rajput women performed Jauhar or the self-immolation to protect their honor and pride.
