Shekhawati Region Rajasthan Village Tour
Shekhawati Region Rajasthan Village Tour
The state of Rajasthan has many geographical entities or regions which collectively make the state of rajasthan. These geographical and historical regions are known as ‘The Region of Mewar’, ‘The Region of
Marwar, ‘The Region of Hadoti’, ‘The Region of Dhoondat’, ‘The Region of Mewat’ and ‘The Region of Shekhawati’. This Shekhawati region takes it’s name from Rao Shekha who governed this region for a very long
time. Among the 30 districts of Rajasthan, the three Western districts of Sikar, Churu and Jhunjunu collectively make the region of Shekhawati. Once this used to be the most prosperous part of not only Rajasthan but India as well. Even today all the big business houses and the industrialists of India are from this region. In order to
expand their business these rich businessmen blessed with extraordinary vision and foresight established their business in and around India. The big industrialist families like the Birlas, the Poddars and the Singhanias and many more are from this region. Before leaving the Shekhawati these businessmen used to live here in big
mansions constructed as per the Hindu architecture treaties called ‘Vastu Shastra’. As not much interior decoration material was available the architects at those time started painting the mansion walls with floral designs, human pictures, wildlife scenes, interesting and popular episodes from Hindu religious texts like
Mahabharata and Ramayana.
The towns of Nawalgarh, Mandawa and Ramgarh have beautiful mansions decorated with these wall paintings. What is surprising to the modern day visitor and the experts in these colour paintings is that 150 years back the artists here used the colours which were extracted only through nature and natural process and no chemical substances were used . Still their shine and glow surprises everybody. This living and natural theatre of painting is a must visit during a trip to Rajasthan.
