Ahmedabad played a vital role in the fight for independence; father of nation Mahatma Gandhi chose the magical land of Ahmedabad to live. The city is located on the banks of river Sabarmati which flows from between the city. The foundation stone of this city was laid by the king Ahmad Shah I of Gujarat sultanate on 26 February 1411; it was declared as the capital city of Gujarat Sultanate on 4th of March 1411 by king Ahmad Shah I himself. This ancient city has its root connected to Vedic era also, legends indicate that ancient sage Dadhichi used to live here on the banks of river Sabarmati.
